Help to keep the Wenlock wild!

The Wilderness Society

Steve Irwin called Queensland's Wenlock River 'the most beautiful place on Earth'. But the Wenlock is under threat.

A mining company wants to build a new bauxite mine here - right in the middle of the Steve Irwin Wildlife Reserve created in memory of the late Crocodile Hunter.

If we let the mine go ahead, it would damage the Wenlock, destroy forests, cause erosion and wipe out wildlife habitat.

Queensland Premier Anna Bligh can save the Wenlock from this fate. Thanks to amazing conservationists like you, Anna Bligh has already received more than 2,500 emails in the last week asking her to save the Wenlock by declaring it a Wild River.

The final decision on the Wenlock is expected very soon. Let's make a big impact. Join us as we take this one step further and ensure our message gets across.

You can help by signing the two petitions below

You can also help by calling Anna today on (07) 3224 4500 and ask her:

  • Is a mining company going to be allowed to build a damaging bauxite mine in the Steve Irwin Wildlife Reserve?
  • Is the Queensland Government going to declare the Wenlock a Wild River?

Thanks so much for your passion for our environment. With your help, we can keep the Wenlock how it should be: wet, wild and full of crocodiles!

The Wilderness Society - Yours for the protection of our last wild places
